Thanksgiving Project

If you love me…. feed my sheep.

In John 21 Jesus, the Good Shepherd seemed to be relegating this task to Simon Peter and his disciples.  Now that they are gone, this remains the responsibility of all God’s faithful servants.

Time and time again we read in scripture about our responsibility to care for Jesus’ flock. For instance:

Matthew 25:35-36

I was hungry and you fed me,

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,

I was homeless and you gave me a room,

I was shivering and you gave me clothes,

I was sick and you stopped to visit,

I was in prison and you came to me.

These words inspire the mission of the outreach at St. Matthias.

Our Thanksgiving Project at St. Matthias is a year long event.  Preparation began in February so that we could better refine our efforts for the next season.  Likewise, this will not be the only effort we engage in to care for our brothers and sisters in need; for we are not called to follow our Lord only on Sunday or holidays or when convenient.

We are called with a sense of urgency every day just like Simon Peter and the first disciples on that day when Jesus asked, not once, but three times, “Do you love me?”  We know His reply!
