FELLOWSHIP & EVENTS
Fellowship Opportunities
GATHERED IN GRACE
At St. Matthias, fellowship works to provide opportunities for all members of the parish to get to know one another and become friends. Whether you’re looking to deepen your faith, connect with others who share your interests, or simply enjoy meaningful conversations over a cup of coffee, there’s something for everyone in our fellowship programs.
Listed below are our various fellowship opportunities. If you are interested in any of these fellowship opportunities, feel free to reach out to the Church Office and we will be more than happy to assist.
Coffee & Conversation
From 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday mornings, join us in the Parish Hall for coffee, refreshments, and most importantly, fellowship. This is a wonderful opportunity to partake in enriching conversations, spiritual or mundane, and get to know your fellow parishioners.
Monthly Ladies’ Luncheon
Adult women of the parish are invited to join this monthly fellowship gathering, organized by parishioner Norma Sweeney. Hosted at local restaurants, the luncheon offers a chance to share stories, cultivate friendships, and enjoy community beyond Sunday mornings.
Newcomers’ Lunch
To help newcomers get acquainted with our church family and to foster connections within our community, Fr. Jim hosts an annual Newcomers’ Lunch. Here, parishioners new and old are able to share a delicious meal while getting to know one another.
Monthly Men’s Luncheon
Often referred to as the Retired Men’s Luncheon, this fellowship group welcomes all adult men of the parish. Coordinated by parishioner Hugh Dial, the group gathers once a month at a local restaurant for good food, conversation, and connection.
Annual Events
CELEBRATE IN COMMUNITY
Our annual events provide a variety of ways for individuals and families to engage with our church community and build lasting relationships. From Pet Blessings to Mardi Gras dinners, we have opportunities for the entire family—including your furry friends—to get involved.
Listed below are our various annual events. If you have any questions or are interested in a particular event, feel free to reach out to the Church Office and we will be more than happy to assist.
Epiphany Pageant
On Epiphany Sunday, our children present a special Epiphany pageant that walks us through the story of the Three Kings visiting baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Throughout the pageant, the congregation is invited to sing beloved Christmas hymns together, making this a truly festive experience.
Shrove Tuesday Mardi Gras Dinner
What was once our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper has transformed into a festive Mardi Gras dinner hosted by our Monthly Men’s Luncheon group. Enjoy homemade New Orleans and Caribbean foods prepared by parishioners, ending with delicious king cake for dessert.
Annual Parish Picnic
A festive family event, the Annual Parish Picnic takes place the Sunday after Easter. Meats from the grill and drinks are provided with parishioners bringing in their favorite pot-luck side dishes and desserts. There are games for the children and fun for all.
Vacation Bible School
In 2023, we hosted our first Vacation Bible School with the theme “Keepers of the Kingdom” and now hope to continue doing so every summer. Here, we’re able to share the love of God with both the children in our parish and those in our community.
Pet Blessing & Vendor Fair
The Blessing of the Animals honors the legacy of St. Francis and is held annually at St. Matthias. Parishioners and those in our community bring their pets to be prayed over in a spiritually moving service, and in 2023, the event was expanded to include vendors and other exciting activities.
Sunday School’s Christmas Program
To get into the holiday spirit, our Sunday School puts on a Christmas Program during the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve service. From scripted live nativity scenes to more casual conversations about the true meaning of Christmas, the program is sure to delight all who attend.
